Data Center Operations Manager

Description:

As a Data Center Operations Manager, you will oversee the operations that keep our data centers running smoothly, focusing on maximizing reliability and performance while enhancing operational efficiency in complex technical environments.

This position serves as Amazon's frontline in hands-on troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical equipment, including critical infrastructure such as diesel generators, three-phase electrical systems, and associated systems. You will also manage mechanical equipment, including chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and fire suppression systems.

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We maintain the servers, storage, and networking equipment necessary to provide customers with continuous access to innovative solutions. We are tackling some of the most complex challenges while seeking talented individuals eager to help us achieve our mission.

You will be part of a diverse team consisting of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain experts, and security specialists. You will collaborate with various AWS teams to uphold the highest standards for safety and security while providing exceptional capacity for our customers at the lowest costs. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of the data center's critical infrastructure, ensuring that all operations are performed to high standards without impacting internal or external customers.
  • Manage team performance, safety, security, and quality, fostering a positive experience across various schedules.
  • Lead a team of 24/7 engineering technicians and Facility Managers, supporting their career development.
  • Drive improvement projects from conception to completion, collaborating with multiple support teams.
  • Ensure staffing levels align with operational needs and expansion plans.
  • Actively participate in ongoing construction activities.
  • Coordinate daily with third-party vendors to ensure adherence to service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Effectively manage operations budgets and expenditures.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience.
  • 5+ years of managerial or supervisory experience, managing teams of 8-10 or more direct reports.
  • 3+ years of administrative experience with Microsoft Office products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with electrical and mechanical systems used in critical data center operations, including systems like feeders, transformers, generators, and chillers.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent experience, with at least 7 years in a mission-critical environment.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly in verbal and written formats.
  • Physical capability to work in an environment requiring walking, climbing, and bending to access equipment.
  • Experience in behavioral interviewing and staff recruitment.

The base salary for this position ranges from $129,200.00 to $193,000.00 annually.
