The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony (RSIC) is a federally recognized tribal government dedicated to the economic and social advancement of its people. Established in the early 1900s and formally recognized under the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, the RSIC represents over 1,100 members of the Paiute, Shoshone, and Washoe Tribes—Three Tribes, One Nation. Our lands include the original 28-acre Colony in central west Reno and a 1,920-acre community in Hungry Valley, located 19 miles north of the Colony in the scenic Eagle Canyon region of Nevada. The RSIC is a vibrant and growing organization that honors traditional teachings and cultural heritage while embracing modern business practices and innovative governance. What would you do as a Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA)

As an Advanced Practice Provider at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, you will work closely with the Chief Medical Officer to deliver comprehensive primary care services that prioritize health promotion, injury and illness prevention, and the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of health issues. This role involves monitoring stable chronic conditions and engaging in community development and advocacy to enhance overall well-being. You will conduct necessary testing, refer patients to physicians when needed, prescribe medications, and perform office procedures within your scope of expertise, all while utilizing available equipment. Your commitment to a culturally appropriate, holistic approach ensures that you provide patient-centered care to individuals of all ages, making a significant impact on the health of the community.

Would you be a great Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA)?

To thrive as an Advanced Practice Provider at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, candidates must possess a Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution and hold a current State License as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. A minimum of three years of experience in an outpatient or ambulatory care clinic setting is essential, along with the ability to acquire and maintain ACLS certification promptly. Successful applicants must demonstrate knowledge of diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic medical care, including the assessment and evaluation of complex patient needs. Proficiency with electronic health records and various software applications is crucial for effective data communication. Strong organizational skills, the ability to shift priorities in a dynamic environment, and cultural competency regarding Native American populations are vital.

Additionally, candidates should be prepared to engage in regular physical activity and pass a background check to ensure a safe and supportive healthcare environment.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • REQUIRED to have a Master Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university
  • REQUIRED to possess a current State License as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (Must submit copy of Licensure with application.)
  • REQUIRED to have a minimum of three (3) years' experience working in an outpatient or ambulatory care clinic setting.
  • REQUIRED to acquire and maintain ACLS certification within 180 days of hire; strongly recommend certification within 90 days of hire
  • REQUIRED to be free from exclusion from providing Federal health care benefits including Medicare and Medicaid as per the Federal OIG and GSA exclusion lists.
  • REQUIRED to submit to annual TB skin testing and adhere to RSTHC staff immunization policy in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control immunization recommendations for healthcare workers.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic preventive and therapeutic medical care including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of complex and subtle patient needs and interventions.
  • Knowledge of exposure control including bloodborne pathogens and respiratory protection protocols.
  • Ability to work with personal computer and utilize a variety of software applications including electronic health records database and office software systems.
  • Ability to collect organize, record and proficiently communicate data relevant to primary health assessments. Communicating clearly and effectively both orally and in writing using tact and sensitivity.
  • Ability to prioritize and shift priorities in a changing environment.
  • Knowledge of diversity and cultural difference of Native American populations and the ability to appreciate cultural differences and their effect on healthcare delivery.
  • Ability to perform physical activity on a regular basis including but not limited to: walking standing for long periods and lifting.
  • Eligibility to participate in the RSIC Vehicle Insurance program
  • Must be able to pass a background check
