Specific Responsibilities:

• Operate and perform maintenance on ICP, AA & SIE instruments;

• Perform wet assay analytical works including gravimetric and volumetric analyses;

• Prepare sample dilutions, instrument operating solutions and calibration standards;

• Test and evaluate calibration standards;

• Identify and correct QC related problems by ensuring the quality of the analytical data meets ALS standards;

• Follow up on rush priority work orders;

• Effectively liaise within department to communicate safety, quality and operational issues;

• Ensure all work instructions and standard working procedures are strictly adhered to;

• In conjunction with the supervisor, perform tests to modify and improve analytical procedures;

• Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following all safety requirements within the Safety Manual and communicating all safety concerns to the Manager.

• Ensure storage of hazardous waste in accordance with regulated health & safety procedures:

• Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;

• Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;

• Other tasks as assigned by Supervisor or Manager;

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Strong analytical and mechanical skills;

• Detail-oriented individual with a strong commitment to quality;

• Organized, highly motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team;

• Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues;

• Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal);

• Strong MS Office skills, specifically MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Required Qualifications

• Recognized Diploma or Degree in Science required, with a concentration in Chemistry preferred, or completion of the BC Assayers certification program required;

• Minimum of 1 year laboratory experience in analytical chemistry, instrumentation or a related field preferred.

• Maintain annual recertification for the disposal of hazardous waste.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift up to 50lbs;

• Ability to work within a hot and dusty environment;

• Ability to stand and/or sit for up to 8 hours per day;

• Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks.

• Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities
