As a Resident Assistant, you will play a crucial role in creating a welcoming environment within the residence halls. You'll be responsible for treating everyone with respect and inclusivity, regardless of their identities or personal preferences. Additionally, you will be expected to uphold and enforce policies consistently and efficiently while seeking assistance when needed.
Responsibilities include serving as a positive role model on and off campus, documenting residence hall rule violations, representing the university positively to various stakeholders, engaging and connecting with residents through intentional interaction, actively participating and being visible in the community, fostering healthy relationships and demonstrating an ethic of care with residents, promoting inclusivity and equity within the community, encouraging resident involvement in leadership activities and groups, promoting and empowering residents to engage in leadership opportunities within the hall community, developing and implementing programming in line with residential curriculum, and maintaining all paperwork systematically.
Required qualifications include being enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno as a full-time student, having completed at least two semesters at the university/college level, maintaining a minimum 2.5 grade point average, and successfully completing a minimum of 15 credits per semester of employment.
Compensation and benefits include a single occupancy room in the assigned residence hall and utilities, an academic year meal plan, a partial tuition waiver for those who successfully complete at least two semesters as a Resident Assistant, and meals provided during training and on-call duty rotations during breaks.
The expected schedule includes working an average of fifteen to twenty hours per week, including community building, building relationships with residents, implementing the residential curriculum, and serving on an on-call duty rotation to address alleged community standard and university policy violations, which will require overnight and weekend hours.
