SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of the Assistant Housekeeping Operations Manager, has supervisory oversight of the Utility Crew, Light Duty Crew in the performance of various specialized custodial responsibilities, including emergency response clean-ups (water, sewer, petroleum, etc.), virus outbreak deep cleaning at schools/sites, carpet extraction, carpet repair, substitute custodial work, gym floors cost analyst, training on procedures for refinishing, ordering of need supply's and product, and other areas needed by Housekeeping; assists in the evaluation, counseling, discipline, coaching, and training of employees. Incumbent performs related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Housekeeping Utility Crew Coordinator oversees the Utility Crew staff. The Housekeeping Utility Crew Coordinator is responsible for the proper training of the Utility Crew II's personnel that train Housekeeping's Process Cleaning for Health for all Housekeeping custodial staff district wide.

The Housekeeping Utility Crew Coordinator performs senior journey level coordination, custodial and extra-curricular activities that are most varied, difficult, and complex in nature. This job classification is assigned to the Housekeeping Department and assists sites district-wide.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages programs designed to provide District facilities, which include schools and support facilities, temporary labor assistance for their housekeeping programs; manages the Utility Crew and the Light Duty Crew daily; maintains constant management role over these groups to ensure that project needs are communicated and organized; acts as a liaison position for Housekeeping Operations with direct contact with Maintenance Operations, Capitol Projects and Planning, and other District Support departments in mobilizing and utilizing crews to provide manpower and logistics support for District projects both large and small; manages and mobilizes Housekeeping Operations staff to respond to virus outbreaks, hazardous response and emergency clean up; assists district sites with teacher overage moves and assists Property Control with surplus projects; schedules, cost analyst, and training for all gym floor screening and finish application in the district; coordinates specialized custodial projects as needed throughout the District; trains new Utility Crew II's to train Process Cleaning for Health to new employees; may re-train current employees in Process Cleaning for Health; reviews the job performance of the Utility Crew, and the Light Duty Crew; assists in training programs for the Site Facility Coordinators, Lead Custodians, and other housekeeping staff for their advancement and preparation in housekeeping positions in the schools and support facilities; stays current with new emergency response methods, and incorporates them into training programs; plans and assigns work for Utility Crew employees performing specialized custodial responsibilities; supervises work of subordinates; inspects completed work for conformance to standards; orients, trains and evaluates subordinates; recommends personnel actions such as transfers, promotions, disciplinary actions, etc.; maintains operational, administrative and personnel records and reports; inventories, requisitions, and maintains custodial supplies and equipment for the crews; may be called upon on off-hours to fill in for a Site Facility Coordinator or for school emergencies, such as burglaries, vandalism, fires, equipment failures, sewer back-ups, floods, fire camps, evacuation centers, etc.; physically performs OSHA Class III disturbances to asbestos containing building materials as directed in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education/Experience: Any combination equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

  1. Equivalent to a high school diploma.
AND
  1. Three (3) plus years of responsible experience in custodial or maintenance operations, two (2) years of progressively responsible experience working in an educational environment.
AND
  1. Two (2) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience working in a general operations environment.

Knowledge of: Supervisory principles, practices and techniques, including organizing personnel, setting goals, managing priorities, and facilitating timely completion of projects; knowledge of all district supported applications including Team-Works, Business Plus, Microsoft Office, Excel; building systems and building repairs; custodial supplies and chemical cleaning materials; customer service; reading, writing, and advanced math; methods and equipment used in custodial work; heating, plumbing and electrical systems; general safety practices; basic emergency/first aid techniques; and extensive knowledge and experience in responding to emergency events and clean-ups.

Skill at: Supervising and organizing multiple crews for multiple projects and tasks daily; training, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating operations personnel; working with people, staff supervision and administration; preparing and maintaining personnel and administrative records and reports; operating, maintaining and scheduling crew and loaner equipment; using problem solving aptitude to resolve discrepancies in reports and enhance current processes; report analysis and report development; using mathematical skills to develop departmental statistics, crew management and project tracking systems, and key performance indicators through Excel and Access programs; maintaining accurate records and reports; assigning and coordinating work and personnel for maximum effectiveness and efficiency; communicating effectively both verbally and in writing including development of staff and client documentation; the operation of personal computers and variety of software applications, specifically, district-supported programs; working effectively in a team environment with all levels of staff, working independently in a fast-paced environment without constant supervision; working effectively under time limitations and deadlines; using appropriate judgment in meeting unforeseen circumstances and conditions; establishing and maintaining working relationships with those contacted in the course of performing assigned duties; maintaining inventory records; operating light auxiliary equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks; moving heavy or large objects weighing as much as 50 pounds; performing strenuous physical work; climbing and working from ladders; working under occasional adverse environmental situations such as heat, cold, dust and fumes; responding to emergency events and clean-ups.

Licenses/Certificates: Driver's License

Special Requirements: Employee may be required to pass a physical and a full-mask or half-mask respirator fit test. Under this requirement the employee may not be able to have certain facial hair, including a beard, long sideburns, or mustache that may interfere with the passing of the fit test. Employee may be required to work various shifts, including a day, mid-day, and/or evening shift. Employee may be required to work some weekends and holidays, due to emergencies. Employee may be required to attend classes in water mitigation, emergency response, and virus outbreak cleaning standards.

Certification: AHERA 16 Hour asbestos training required within the first 12 months of employment. Employer will provide training.

Sch B: $33.08 (entry step)

Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year. New employees hired by Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position.

This position is a 40 hour a week, 260 day position.

Temporary employees working less than 6 months do not receive benefits.

New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
