SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under general direction of an IT Coordinator, provides network administrative functions using a variety of technologies and tools. Provides general IT support including infrastructure, workstations, printers, and system applications for the district. Incumbent performs related work as required.
Education/Experience: Any education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

Three (3) years of professional experience working in an equivalent job function in a Microsoft Domain/Exchange/Cisco environment;

Three (3) years of professional experience working as an IT Systems Specialist:

In Percipio/SkillSoft, complete CompTIA Network+ and at least two other courses from the following list with an overall score of 80 or above:
When Assigned to Microsoft:
Knowledge of: Active Directory; Group Policy; managing and creating desktop images in a SCCM 2012 environment; Server 2016 and newer; Windows 10 & 11; ; SharePoint; DNS; DFS; PXE; DHCP; Exchange 2013;
Skill at: Administrative support in an Microsoft server environment; Using associated network management tools; applying logical, analytical, problem-solving techniques and methods; communicating effectively both in writing and orally; participating in cross-functional project teams; coordinating work with schools and offices; ability to work independently and/or function as a team member depending on the type of project; ; prioritizing and managing work assignments; and understanding and applying knowledge gained from technical manuals, newsletters, journals, technical training, and courses of instruction.
When Assigned to Cisco:
Knowledge of: District network infrastructure including; Cisco networking products (routers, switches, wireless), Cisco Unified Communications, IP routing protocols (EIGRP, BGP), Switching (VLANs, STP, VTP, Trunking, SPAN, QOS), IP Services (ARP, DHCP, DNS, NAT, GRE, HSRP), Security (IPSEC & SSL VPN, AAA, RADIUS, PKI, NAC, 802.1X, IOS Firewall), QOS (Policy, shaping, congestion management), multicast (routing and switching), MPLS, VRF, Virtualization products (VMWare ESX Server). Be able to analyze network traffic to determine communication problems. Be able to troubleshoot server hardware issues.
Skill at: Planning, organizing, communicating, problem solving and troubleshooting; exercising judgment and initiative in analyzing/troubleshooting the network and making sound recommendations and modifications; and managing network equipment to provide the highest level of function and stability. Good customer service skills are mandatory for both internal and external customers. Proficiency with Office 2016 & 365, including Project and Visio.

New employees hired by Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position. Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year.
Benefit packages are available for all employees, eligible employees who are regularly scheduled to work 27.5 hours per week or more receive full benefits of the District which include but are not limited to;
New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
The job offer is conditional until a report is returned from the FBI and Nevada Department of Public Safety that meets the standards of WCSD for employment purposes.
