Sr. Tooling Engineer, Stamping

Description:

As a key member of the Global Manufacturing Engineering Team, the Sr. Tooling Engineer position oversees homeline trial scheduling, die quality improvements, and vendor collaboration to ensure tooling meets performance standards. Key duties include managing stamped panel changes, resolving tooling issues, reviewing new die builds, and optimizing processes for efficiency and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee homeline trial scheduling, ensuring alignment with internal teams and vendors, availability of required resourced, and timely execution
  • Implement and manage required changes to stamped panels based on feedback from BIW and Quality Teams during launch, collaborating with vendors and the Tool and Die team to ensure quality requirements are met
  • Collaborate with the Tool and Die Team to resolve open issues on tools, working closely with vendors to ensure all concerns are addressed and tooling meets quality and performance standards
  • Collaborate with vendors on new die builds by reviewing simulation, die process, die design, manufacturing, buyoff, and homelining. Must have a strong understanding of simulation and die processes while maintaining proficiency in die design, manufacturing, buyoff and homelining
  • Work with materials team on planning for new programs and addressing quality investigations
  • Work with vendors to ensure all targets, including quality and performance, are achieved prior to die shipping
  • Manage project schedules, identify risks and opportunities, and ensure all necessary activities are in place to meet deadlines
  • Establish and refine process to enhance die performance, reduce downtime, and improve overall operational efficiency
Requirements
  • Experience with launching new programs
  • Knowledge of tandem press operations including part transfer automation flow through entire press line
  • Understanding of stamping processes, design & build is required
  • Understanding of GD&T & BIW assembly processes
  • Demonstrates leadership, teamwork & communication skills
  • Knowledge of production & quality control procedures
  • Strong time management skills
  • Understands material properties for steel & aluminum, experience with stainless steel preferred
  • Able to work with multiple teams & establish / maintain supplier relationships & performance
